The 8 TB X300 is Toshiba's performance desktop drive for gaming and workstation PCs. At this capacity it spins at 7,200 rpm with a 512 MB buffer and CMR recording, uses a dual-stage actuator, Toshiba Stable Platter and Dynamic Cache Technology and an internal shock sensor, and carries a two-year limited warranty. Toshiba does not publish a sustained transfer rate or annual workload rating for it.

Specifications checked 26 Sept 2026Manufacturer specifications, not a hands-on test.
7,200 rpm with a 512 MB buffer and CMR recording on the 8 TB model, per Toshiba's own per-capacity datasheet.
The EMEA retail kit (HDWR780EZSTA) and bulk drive (HDWR780UZSVA) are both listed officially, so the exact 8 TB SKU can be confirmed.
Only a two-year limited warranty and a 600,000-hour MTTF.
No official sustained transfer rate or annual workload rating is published for the X300, which makes like-for-like throughput comparison harder.
It is a desktop drive: Toshiba does not list NAS bay support or 24/7 operation for it.
HDWR780EZSTA is the retail number on Toshiba's EMEA product page and data sheet; those sources list no separate US retail number, so the US search also uses this EMEA number.

25 specifications in 6 groups. Values are manufacturer specifications unless a row says “Measured result” or “Calculated from cited specifications”.
Toshiba states SATA 6.0 Gbit/s.
Bare drive; taken from the 8 TB datasheet page.
SourceThe product page gives '512 MB / 256 MB' across the range; the 8 TB datasheet page gives 512 MB.
Listed as a Top Feature; Toshiba publishes no further detail. Buffer size is recorded separately.
RPM class, buffer and average latency from the 8 TB datasheet page. Neither the cited X300 datasheet nor the product page states a maximum sustained transfer rate for the X300, so no MB/s figure is recorded (value intentionally not inferred from the N300 or other models).
SourceToshiba limited-warranty terms apply; Toshiba publishes no annual workload rating for the X300.
8 TB datasheet page.
SourceThe 8 TB datasheet page states '1 per 10^15'; the product page's range-wide specification table states '1 per 10¹⁴ bits read'. Both are official; the conflict is kept explicit.
Exact 8 TB HDWR780EZSTA/HDWR780UZSVA technical page: MTTF (hours). Manufacturer statistical rating, not an individual drive lifespan, guarantee or MTBF claim.
SourceToshiba: the dual-stage actuator improves positional accuracy against vibration-induced head-track misalignment; Stable Platter Technology stabilises the motor shaft at both ends to minimise vibration. No measured benefit is published.
8 TB datasheet page: 'supported'.
Source8 TB datasheet page 'Shock Sensor yes'. The product page also describes ramp loading technology, which keeps the slider off the disk during transport.
8 TB datasheet page, idle mode. The product page says the helium-sealed 12 TB to 20 TB X300 models 'minimize acoustic output to just 20db (typical) in idle mode'; that figure does not apply to this 8 TB model.
