Form factor
3.5-inch

The 8 TB N300 is Toshiba's NAS drive for 24/7 operation; Toshiba reserves helium sealing for the 12 TB to 22 TB models. It is rated for NAS enclosures of up to eight bays (Toshiba's bulk 14 TB to 22 TB models: up to 12), with a 180 TB/year workload, a 512 MB buffer, CMR recording and a three-year limited warranty, and uses Toshiba NASLink firmware, Dynamic Cache Technology, error recovery control and temperature control.

Key strengths

Toshiba's own per-capacity datasheet gives the 8 TB model a typical sustained transfer figure of 281 MB/s at 7,200 rpm.

Rated for continuous 24 x 7 operation with a 180 TB/year workload, rotational-vibration sensors and CMR recording, which matters for RAID rebuilds in multi-bay NAS units.

The EMEA retail kit (HDWG780EZSTA) and bare drive (MN10ADA800S) are both listed on the official page, making the exact variant easy to confirm.

The checks that matter.

Before you buy

The 8 TB model is rated for NAS enclosures of up to 8 bays; Toshiba's 12-bay rating applies only to larger capacities.

Warranty is three years, and the 8 TB MTTF (1,000,000 hours) is lower than the helium models' 1,200,000 hours.

As a 7,200 rpm air-filled drive it draws about 9 W when operating and Toshiba lists 34 dB idle acoustics.

HDWG780EZSTA is the retail number on Toshiba's EMEA product page and data sheet; those sources list no separate US retail number, so the US search also uses this EMEA number.
