The HD 480 PRO (article 700499) is Sennheiser's closed-back, around-ear wired studio headphone. It has a 38 mm dynamic transducer, a rated 130 Ω impedance, a Vibration Attenuation System that Sennheiser says reduces reflected sound and distortion, a detachable 3 m coiled cable that can plug into either ear cup, and braille-guided L/R ear cups with grooved pads for eyeglass wearers. It weighs 272 g without the cable and is passive, with no battery, microphone or noise cancellation. Sennheiser lists a two-year warranty.

Key strengths
The closed back is rated for a maximum acoustical attenuation of 35 dB at 5 kHz; Sennheiser says its multiple stages of passive sound shielding maintain audio signal integrity, and it names mixing and on-the-go music production, in the studio and beyond, among the applications.
Sensitivity is stated both per volt (107 dB SPL) and per milliwatt (98 dB SPL) at 130 Ω, which helps when matching it to an interface or headphone amplifier.
The cable detaches and can be fitted to either ear cup, the velour pads are washable and replaceable, and Sennheiser describes the headphones as fully serviceable.
Before you buy
The standard 700499 box has only the 3 m coiled cable and a protective carrying bag (PRO headphone bag); 1.8 m and 3 m cables, a balanced cable and the recording pad set are listed as separate accessories, and the travel case comes with the separate PRO Plus article.
There is no microphone, wireless connection or active noise cancellation; noise reduction comes only from the closed passive design.
